Professional Quality Standards and Certifications | |
TruckSafe is the industries initiative to help it become more professional in its transport operating systems. TruckSafe and Quality go hand in hand as many of the "Standard" requirements are identical, for example, personnel training, the process of following through on problems, record keeping and the controls required to ensure information is current and clearly defines personnel responsibilities.
What TruckSafe required over and above the Quality System was the need to clearly define how our vehicle fleet was maintained, maintenance frequency, vehicle inspections, specific driver training and their need to be healthy and fit for the job.
We were proud of our vehicle maintenance program and felt we were totally in control, through TruckSafe we found some better more efficient ways to do the same job much better.
We have our drivers work through the medical examination regularly, an exercise which has proven to be very beneficial to them and we encourage a healthy diet as well as look at what we can do to reduce fatigue.
Since our certification to this program in 1998 there have been benefits sure they are realised in house but the end result is we are providing a better service to our customers and one with a much higher level of consistency and reliability.
HACCP Australia Food Safety Accreditation provides a recognised endorsement of food safety excellence. This endorsement offers assurance to the industry a product’s suitability for use within a HACCP-based food safety programme.
Collins Adelaide Pty Ltd gained Quality systems certification in 1994. One may ask why would a transport company want to have Quality Systems Certification. Firstly, at that time it was the thing to do, if you weren't Quality Certified business would be lost.
Today some 6 years down the track we certainly didn't lose business. In fact we have gained some, but more importantly, internally we are a much better Company.
We have procedures in place which ensure consistency at the standard we wish to achieve. We make far less mistakes than before and if we do mess up these days there's a planned approach to getting the correction right for the long term, not just a quick fix that gets forgotten about in the short term.
We look more closely at how we can improve our systems on a planned approach, checking the ramifications of change to the services we provide, the equipment we use and not last or least the effects on our people.
Yes Quality Certification didn't provide us with the initial perceived benefits, but it certainly has made a difference in house and to the way we do things today.
